Benefits and rewards

As a YHA employee, you’ll have access to a whole host of benefits that are designed to make your time with us as happy and rewarding as possible. Here are just some of the benefits you can enjoy when you work for YHA.

  • Plenty of time for holidays

You’re entitled to 29 days annual leave per year (pro-rata if you work part-time). And, in addition to your usual holiday allowance, we’ll give you up to five additional days (pro-rata if you work part-time) to volunteer with YHA.

  • Health cash plans

With YHA, you have access to a health cash plan to help you manage the costs of everyday health expenses such as eye tests, dental treatment and physio.

  • Life insurance

If the worst should happen while you’re employed by YHA, your family will receive a lump sum equivalent to twice your annual earnings.

  • Get fit at a discounted rate

Working for YHA, you can enjoy reduced price gym membership nationwide, as well as other fitness savings. We also offer a cycle to work scheme that allows you to save on the cost of a new bike.

  • Make your pay go further

YHA has a partnership with the #RewardMe discount portal, allowing you to get cash back and discounts on thousands of products with some of the biggest brands.

  • Support at work

You’ll have regular team meetings, one-to-ones, opportunities for feedback and chances to socialise. You’ll have access to our independent, confidential helpline for advice and counselling that’s available 24-hours a day and is totally free. And, if you ever need to take time off work for sickness, bereavement, or other needs, your line manager will always seek to support you.

  • Give as you earn

We offer a simple way for you to donate to any UK charities close to your heart (including YHA) through your monthly wages.

  • People’s Pension enrolment

No matter where you are in your career, it’s never a bad idea to start planning your retirement. If you’re eligible, you’ll automatically be enrolled into our pension scheme with the People’s Pension.

  • Flexible approaches to working

We know that having time to connect with the important people in your life is vital. That’s why we’ll do our best to support you in balancing your work and family life, such as flexible working options. Speak to your line manager for guidance.

  • Stay for free

We have over 150 hostels in some of the most stunning places in England and Wales. And, if you work for YHA, you get 10 free overnight stays every year for you and up to three guests. What’s more, you’ll also get a discount on YHA Exclusive Hire.

  • Get paid to volunteer

As well as your usual holiday allowance, we’ll give you up to five additional days each year (pro-rata if you work part-time) to volunteer with YHA. Giving your time to volunteer with YHA is an incredibly rewarding way to learn more about the organisation, make new connections and develop new skills.

  • Recognition for going the extra mile

We have an award nomination scheme linked to our values that recognises the many, many employees who go the extra mile.

  • Money off your meals

Hostel based staff can tuck into reduced price meals at £2.50 per course on the days when they’re working (available to live-in staff on non-working days too). Because no one wants to go to work on an empty belly.
