Because where you go changes who you become.

If you’re someone who loves to be inspired by your surroundings then you’ve come to the right place.

At YHA, we often refer to our hostels as ‘the network’. It’s an apt word to describe the manor houses, mountain huts, Swiss-style chalets and 800-year-old castles that make up our unique collection of properties. Each one different, each with its own character, and each connected by a shared purpose; a drive to make travel and new experiences available to all.

Hostel network

YHA’s hostel network is as vast as it is diverse, covering the length and breadth of England and Wales, in national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Our properties can be found in picturesque coastal towns, clinging to steep mountain sides, in the heart of bustling city centres and scattered throughout the gorgeous British countryside. They’re in the places you go when you’re looking for an adventure.

National Office

Set in Matlock, Derbyshire, YHA’s National Office is surrounded by stunning views of the Peak District. Originated as a spa town, Matlock has shops, cafes and good transport links – it’s a 15-minute walk from the train station or you can use our free staff car park. Here you’ll find our customer advisors, HR support, marketing experts and more. Many teams work remotely or in hybrid roles, while others are based in the office.

James Blake, CEO of YHA

“YHA is a charity and social enterprise, a competitive business with real social purpose. That’s what motivated me to join in 2017 — the combination of it being a commercial operation delivering high quality to guests, with the amazing contribution YHA makes to society by improving health, wellbeing and life skills for all but especially young people.

“I’m a lifelong hosteller. I first got into hostelling as a young person, after a little bit of a tough time at school, when I was desperate to find ways to get out into the mountains. YHA made a real difference to my life. And everyone who works here makes a difference to the lives of young people.

“I’m really proud of this fantastic and unique organisation — as a charity, but also as an employer. We’re an Investors in People Gold employer. That’s the paper. What’s more important to me is the environment — the informal, friendly environment you find wherever you go in YHA. That allows everyone who works with us to thrive. Plus, we’ve got a structured learning and development programme which really helps people progress their careers with us.

“Since I joined, I’ve been struck by the passion and commitment of everyone who works here — both in our hostels and at our National Office. You can’t bottle it, it’s a unique asset. Whether you have lots of experience of YHA or you’re completely new to us, I know that you’ll be bitten by the bug. I wish you every success in your career.”
