This team oversees and looks after YHA’s portfolio and infrastructure, undertaking reactive and planned repairs and replacements of building elements, and providing a complete building surveying service across the network.
As a field-based role, the position offers flexibility, autonomy and the chance to visit some amazing properties in stunning locations. Our priorities are to ensure that the hostels remain operable while also helping to achieve growth targets set out in the wider business strategy.
What you could be doing:
Maintenance and development
This team ensure that our buildings are as good as they can be and that they comply with any current legislation.
Each hostel has a Building Surveyor, who assists the Hostel Manager with maintenance and repairs. Our maintenance team help with the management of reactive maintenance at hostels and at National Office. Development managers oversee major capital projects such as refurbishments, working with the operations and project teams.
Franchising and procurement
The franchising and procurement teams help YHA open up a whole range of options for our customers through our agreements with enterprise accommodation providers.
The team ensures YHA uses its budget wisely by overseeing contracts and purchasing goods and services.
Health, safety and environment
The YHA team of safety, security, health, environment and quality management (SSHEQ) professionals advise and direct the on all legal compliance, providing this support to all employees.
Estates
The Estates team take care of the property estates, including managing leases, planning issues, neighbour disputes and acquiring new hostels.

“My role entails property inspections, surveys, maintenance works list and ensuring YHA properties are in good working order. I make sure that properties and safe and compliant, also undertaking project management and liaising with contractors to schedule any works or quotations.
