We have properties in some of the most iconic and inspiring places in England and Wales. Every year we look for team members to join us on temporary contracts in our one-of-a-kind locations —usually from February to November (dependent on the hostel).

YHA team members
The great thing about a temporary job at YHA is the variety that the role offers. You’ll get involved in all aspects of running the hostel, with plenty of opportunity to learn new skills if you haven’t worked in hospitality before. If you have previous experience, then it is the perfect opportunity to put that knowledge into practice, learning plenty of new skills and different approaches.
Don’t worry if you haven’t worked at YHA before. You’ll receive an induction to get to grips with your new role and settle in. We’ll take you through everything, from housekeeping to safeguarding.
Responsibilities
- Providing warm hospitality and great customer service to all our customers, members and guests.
- Working on reception and offering insights about the hostel and the local area, ensuring every guest feels informed and welcomed.
- Utilising our systems for efficient guest check-ins and check-outs and food & beverage sales and service.
- Carrying out cleaning and housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable and clean environment for all guests.
- Assisting in the preparation of food in the kitchen and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality and pride that will influence more sales.
- Suggesting enjoying dinner with us or offering a beverage or dessert as you assist with table service, ensuring a diverse and welcoming experience for all guests.
There are also roles such as duty managers, activity team members and many more roles available on a temporary basis.

Staff accommodation
Staff accommodation (with bills included) is available at some of our hostels. If you’re looking for a change of scenery, this could be the perfect opportunity. If the hostel offers staff accommodation, we’ll try to make this clear on the job advert.
Flexibile contracts
We offer flexible contracts to our team members, usually for at least 25 hours working up to 42.5 hours per week. We can look to offer fewer minimum hours to suit your needs too.
Living wage and discounts
YHA pays the national living wage for all ages. Free uniform is provided and you’ll also get discounted meals while you’re on shift.
