We take the development of our people very seriously. That’s why our learning and development strategy is focussed on ensuring our people and teams continue to grow their skills, capabilities and improve their experience whilst working at YHA.

  • Induction Programme

    Either before starting your day job, or soon after, you will attend ‘Welcome to YHA’. This is a fun, jam-packed day giving you a fantastic introduction to YHA. We feel that it’s really important for you to understand our culture, vision, mission, values and charitable objective.

  • On the Job Training

    We won’t push you in at the deep end. Once you’re on board, you’ll receive on the job training that is specific to your role. Towards the end of your initial training, you’ll sit down with your manager and discuss what’s gone well and agree any additional support you require to ensure you have all of the skills and knowledge to perform well in your new role.

  • Online Learning

    Your continual development is important to us and by accessing our online learning modules, you’ll be able to keep up to date with all your training needs wherever you are in our network.

  • Career Pathways

    It doesn’t stop there – keeping you, our customers and visitors safe is a priority for us. During your first few weeks at YHA, we will ask you to complete a series of online learning modules.

  • Our Annual Employee Survey

    We feel it’s important for our employees to have a say in the way YHA is run and our annual survey gives you the opportunity to speak up. By listening to our people, we are able to encourage and harness new ideas, directly address challenges and develop opportunities to enhance the workplace experience.

    We are proud to say that in 2012 we achieved Investors in People Gold accreditation. IIP is a management framework for high performance through people. This prestigious accreditation is recognised across the world as a mark of excellence. Organisations that demonstrate the Investors in People Standard achieve accreditation through a rigorous and objective assessment to determine performance.

  • Volunteer Training

    We make sure all our volunteers receive an appropriate induction and role specific training. We’ll give you all the tools you need to be successful and make sure that support is available should you require it.
