We take the development of our people very seriously. That’s why our learning and development strategy is focussed on ensuring our people and teams continue to grow their skills, capabilities and improve their experience whilst working at YHA.
Before – or soon after – you start, you will attend ‘Welcome to YHA’. This is a fun, jam-packed day giving you a fantastic introduction to YHA. We feel that it’s really important for you to understand our culture, vision, mission, values and charitable objective.
On the job training
We won’t push you in at the deep end. Once you’re on board, you’ll receive on the job training specific to your role. Towards the end of this, you’ll discuss what’s gone well with your manager and agree any additional support to ensure you have the skills and knowledge to perform well in your new role.
Employee engagement surveys
It’s important for our employees to have a say in the way YHA is run. Our annual employee engagement survey along with our regular dip tests check we’re on track. By listening to our people, we can encourage and adopt new ideas, address challenges and develop opportunities to make it the best place to work.
We invest in people, Gold
We are proud to hold Investors in People’s Gold accreditation 2013-2022. This means that YHA has the policies in place but, more than that, it means everyone – from CEO to apprentice – takes ownership for making them come to life.
Your continual development is important to us and by accessing our online learning modules, you’ll be able to keep up to date with all your training needs wherever you are in our network.
It doesn’t stop there – keeping you, our customers and visitors safe is a priority for us. During your first few weeks at YHA, we will ask you to complete a series of online learning modules.
We make sure all our volunteers receive an appropriate induction and role specific training. We’ll give you all the tools you need to be successful and make sure that support is available should you require it.
